Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Electronic Systems Integration Division (ESID) is seeking an Embedded Computer Software Engineer with the ability to design, develop, and support mission-critical software systems on military platforms. ESID is predominantly focused on the research, development, design and application of software supporting a variety of fielded military applications with emphasis on Electronic Warfare (EW) and avionics systems. The successful candidate will embrace the challenge of inserting modern technologies into these aging, complex systems. In this role, you will perform as an Embedded Computer Software Engineer for a mid-sized team of engineers executing ongoing sponsored programs to sustain tactical real-time offensive and defensive systems deployed on DoD platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers to specify high level software requirements
  • Document software requirements and design implementations
  • Develop executable software using approved processes and coding standards for embedded military system applications
  • Develop and present technical presentations for internal peer reviews and sponsor design reviews
  • Lead small to mid-sized technical tasks and/or teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software development experience supporting avionics, electronic warfare or other embedded systems with similar complexity
  • Experience with Ada 95 and/or C/C++ programming languages
  • Experience with embedded programming using real-time operating systems (RTOS) or Linux

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with developing software for EW systems including security and/or safety critical systems
  • Experience developing avionics systems on military transport (e.g. C-130) and fighter aircraft (e.g. F-16, F-22, F-35)
  • Experience with avionics data buses (MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, Ethernet, RS-422, etc), avionics systems, Electronic Warfare systems, tactical data links, military radios, and open systems architectures
  • Experience with configuration management and requirements management systems
  • Experience leading small to mid-sized technical tasks and/or teams
  • Active SECRET clearance
