Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute is seeking senior research engineers or scientists with expertise in the areas of communications, networking and data-links. Candidates will support SEAL's Command and Control Communication Program Office (C3PO) in the analysis and technology assessment of C2 platforms and support teams designing, analyzing and implementing alternative hardware and software technologies to update these platforms. Candidates should have strong problem solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical and managerial problems.

In addition to performing applied research, candidates are expected to manage research efforts and support business development activities. Business development includes the identification of research topics, conceptualization and formulation of research efforts, interaction with potential sponsors, and writing white papers and proposals. Candidates will be expected to direct research in a team setting and manage resources and budgets. Researchers are expected to be able to work independently as well as in teams. Applicants are required to possess both good written and oral skills in order to document and convey research to both internal personnel and external customers on a regular basis.

Job Duties

  • Performed basic applied research in the areas of networking and communications
  • Experience in designing switching, routing protocols, Mesh, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), and Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET)
  • Knowledgeable in Network Engineering and support of routers, switches, network security devices, and network management systems
  • Well versed in network monitoring, diagnostic, protocol analyzers, sniffer's and analytic tools
  • Proficient in protocols (COFDM, DMVPN, IPSEC, BGP, MPLS, VRF, QoS,OSPF, 802.11, QoS, ACL's, DHCP, TCP/IP, DNS)
  • Understanding of NISPOM/Risk Management Framework (RMF), Defense Security Services (DSS) and DIACAP security requirements
  • Work on the development of new business areas
  • Assist on the technical management of on going efforts
  • Communicate with sponsors for C3PO efforts

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Information Science, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Information Science, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Information Science, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field of study.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Information Science, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Information Science, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Information Science, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree program relevant to this position will be considered
  • Must have at least five (5) years of demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • designing network switching,
    • routing protocols,
    • Mesh,
    • Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), and
    • Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET)
  • Applicants are required to possess both good written and oral skills in order to document and convey one's research to both internal personnel and external customers on a regular basis.
