Job Description

The Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division (ISRD) of the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) is seeking researcher engineers and scientists with experience in Radar systems engineering and development of enhanced, new radar capabilities. ISRD’s projects focus on advanced signal processing, adaptive sensor technologies, advanced algorithms, and modeling & simulation. Applications include airborne radar, electronic warfare, and undersea systems.

Job Duties

Radar systems engineers are responsible for guiding technical solutions, conveying complex ideas to customers and colleagues, and overseeing technical milestone execution for programs with both hardware and software aspects. Specific duties may include:

  • Performing sensor and architecture modeling;
  • Systems trade study analysis;
  • Signal processing algorithm definition and development;
  • Modeling and simulation (M&S) of sensors and systems at low, medium and high fidelity;
  • System performance prediction

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related field of study.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Physics, or a related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May 2020
  • Understand key performance drivers and characteristics of the end-to-end radar system
  • Interest and knowledge of complex system of system interactions
  • Relevant experience in systems engineering or systems analysis
  • Interest in and exposure to radar architecture, signal processing, or complex systems
  • M&S experience in MATLAB, Mathematica, C, Python or similar languages,
  • Familiarity with the various phases of Systems Engineering life cycle
  • Good problem-solving ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and
  • Exposure to CAMEO, Rhapsody, DOORs, or other SysML or UML software programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing U.S. security clearance
  • Exposure to requirements generation and system evaluation activities
  • Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a similar related field
  • Experience summarizing technical research for non-technical audiences,
  • Prior experience with effects based signals analysis and/or physics-based modeling and simulation is highly desired

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
