Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Atlanta, GA is looking for radar software engineers and scientists with interest in developing embedded computing and control systems for unique RF radar hardware prototyping across multiple frequency bands from VHF to Ka-band. The software development requires system-level knowledge of radar operation and understanding of RF hardware subsystems. This opportunity is with the Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS) with the Systems Development Division (SDD). ATAS/SDD projects focus on developing RF hardware systems for a wide range of Department of Defense applications which primarily include radar; threat system simulations; test and evaluation related to threat radars, missiles, air, and ground vehicles; power systems; and embedded computing and control systems but often span into electronic warfare, high power microwave (HPM) systems, and weapon systems. Job Duties

  • Determining software requirements for control of RF systems to meet defined and potential future performance needs
  • Developing embedded computing and control systems for unique radar hardware with a focus on RF hardware control
  • Performing software/embedded computing and control systems system test and integration, and
  • Analyzing and troubleshooting RF systems software operational performance

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field of study and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree program relevant to this position will be considered
  • 5-15 years of relevant programming experience with (preferred) C#, C++, and Python.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in some combination of:

  • C#, C++, and/or Python programming language knowledge
  • Embedded computing and control systems for RF hardware (FPGA programming a plus)
  • Software requirements for control of RF hardware systems
  • Testing and integration of software/embedded computing and control systems, and
  • Troubleshooting embedded computing and control systems for RF systems
  • Experience/interest in managing research projects, willingness to take on technical leadership roles, giving technical presentations of research project results, and writing reports is a plus
