Job Description

The Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) Antenna Systems Division (ASD)  in Huntsville, AL is seeking experienced antenna and RF engineers to support space communications, radar, electronic warfare, and missile defense programs.

The responsibilities of the antenna and RF engineer include supporting externally sponsored as well as GTRI internal research and development projects and contributing to business development and proposal efforts. The position is based in Huntsville, AL at GTRI's Huntsville Research Center (HRC). Significant travel is required to work directly with government and contractor personnel on systems in the field, present research to customers, and develop new business opportunities.

Job Duties:

  • Support externally sponsored and internal research and development projects
  • Test and integrate RF and antenna hardware in the field
  • Perform RF system analysis
  • Perform high-fidelity modeling and simulation of antennas and their performance in communications, radar, and EW systems
  • Develop novel component technology to support antenna and phased array systems

Travel Requirements

25% - 50% travel

Education & Length of Experience-

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years’ experience in the following areas:
    • Performance assessment of antenna design and technology
    • Antenna test, measurement, and integration
    • Antenna design knowledge
    • Antenna-related hardware
    • Expertise in electromagnetic theory
  • Consideration may be given to those holding at least a Bachelor’s degree  in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline and 10+ years’ experience in the following:
    • Performance assessment of antenna design and technology
    • Antenna test, measurement, and integration
    • Antenna design knowledge
    • Antenna-related hardware
    • Electromagnetic theory

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading teams, developing proposals and mentoring junior engineers
  • Modeling and simulation experience with MATLAB and computational EM codes such as HFSS, CST, and FEKO
  • Phased array antenna theory and hardware
  • Digital beamforming and adaptive signal processing
  • EMI/EMC testing
