Job Description

The Senior Space Systems Engineer in the Electro-Optical Systems Innovation Division (EOSID) Atlanta Office will provide advanced space concepts, architectures, and designs in Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber (C5), intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), and space domain awareness (SDA) missions areas, among others to meet customer requirements and internal research goals. The job provides opportunities to develop advanced technology and publish research. Our team designs, builds, and tests the hardware in the entire imaging chain. Key technical areas include Space Domain Awareness, Hyperspectral and Multispectral Imaging Processing; EO System and Component Analysis and Characterization; Optical Imaging and Tagging; and Airborne Lidar System Design, Construction, and Operation for real-time topography, FOPEN, and bathymetry.

Job Duties:

  • Capture, lead and contribute to programs aimed at advancing C5ISR capabilities for DoD and IC sponsors
  • Lead new business development efforts by authoring white papers, Request for Information (RFI)/Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, and sponsor briefs, and by proposing new research areas suitable for internal research and development (IR&D) funding
  • Document work in memoranda, sponsor briefs, conference proceedings, and journal articles. Brief senior leadership and sponsors as required
  • Support field integration, data collection, and other testing activities at test sites and facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Associate

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Imaging Science, Industrial Engineering, or other related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Imaging Science, Industrial Engineering, or other related discipline and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Imaging Science, Industrial Engineering, or other related discipline and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist/Associate

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Imaging Science, Industrial Engineering, or other related discipline and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Imaging Science, Industrial Engineering, or other related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 20+ years of related professional experience in space systems (C5, SDA, ISR)
  • Experience briefing senior-level government customers
  • Experience with government contracting
  • Experience with project management Experience with systems engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with developing requirements to meet mission needs
  • Experience with operational and research level DoD/IC programs
  • Experience in leading large, multidisciplinary teams

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
