Job Description

The Embedded Software Engineer in the Applied Embedded Systems Division (AES) will perform the design, development, and implementation of various embedded software applications using the latest embedded processors and System-on-Chip (SoC). The embedded software engineer will support various applications, including avionics and Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, including high bandwidth data collection, digital signal processing, data manipulation, custom interfaces, and SoC processor interaction.

Job Duties

  • Analyze system and functional requirements to develop solutions
  • Design, develop and validate embedded software
  • Test and debug software modules and integrate with other modules
  • Support, develop, and improve interfaces with firmware or hardware (via OS or bare metal)
  • Integrate system components and support equipment in the laboratory and field settings
  • Participate in technical meetings with GTRI and sponsor personnel, and support issue tracking and sprint planning
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mathematics, Physics or other relevant Engineering or Science degrees.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mathematics, Physics or other relevant Engineering or Science degrees and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mathematics, Physics or other relevant Engineering or Science degrees and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mathematics, Physics or other relevant Engineering or Science degrees.

Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree with a graduation date of May 2021 and skills relevant to this position will be considered.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in software development with C, C++, Ada, or Assembly
  • Experience with embedded processors, such as Cortex, PIC, 8051, AVR, or MIPS
  • Experience with software test and debug

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SoC architectures
  • Experience with embedded operating systems (Yocto, VxWorks, Greenhills, FreeRTOS)
  • Experience developing systems for military or high-reliability applications

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
