Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Atlanta, GA is looking for experienced Systems Engineers to provide project level technical management and support. The successful candidate will provide technical management support to multiple teams of subject matter experts (SMEs), multi-disciplinary engineers, scientists, and technicians. The Systems Engineer will work alongside the PD to develop and maintain technical processes and artifacts in accordance with project requirements.

This opportunity is with the Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS) with the Systems Development Division (SDD). ATAS/SDD projects focus on developing RF hardware systems for a wide-range of Department of Defense applications which primarily include radar, threat system simulations, test and evaluation related to threat radars, missiles, and air and ground vehicles, power systems, and embedded computing and control systems but often span into electronic warfare, high power microwave (HPM) systems, and weapons systems. Job Duties

  • Leverage proven processes, lessons learned, and best practices to develop and tailor technical management processes
  • Work with engineering teams to facilitate the review, analysis, and development of technical requirements
  • Establish and manage project technical requirements using enterprise-level requirements management tools such as DOORS
  • Coordinate and manage system architecture development
  • Coordinate and manage interface development
  • Lead and participate in program/project design reviews
  • Manage systems engineering project deliverables
  • Work with program planners to develop and update the IMS
  • Peer review program document deliverables
  • Manage project risks
  • Coordinate and manage Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer II

  • A Master’s degree in Engineering and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Engineering and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Engineering.

Senior Research Engineer

  • A Master’s degree in Engineering and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Engineering and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Engineering and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering management experience
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with customers, subcontractors, and engineering teams in a professional manner
  • Experience with requirements management tools to include IBM/Rational DOORS

Consideration for the Rank of Researcher II will be given to Bachelor’s holders with 10+ years of full-time relevant experience including:

  • 10+ years of Systems Engineering management experience
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with customers, subcontractors, and engineering teams in a professional manner
  • Experience with requirements management tools to include IBM/Rational DOORS

Consideration for the Rank of Senior Researcher will be given to Bachelor’s holders with 12+ years of full-time relevant experience including:

  • 12+ years of Systems Engineering management experience
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with customers, subcontractors, and engineering teams in a professional manner
  • Experience with requirements management tools to include IBM/Rational DOORS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in some combination of:
    • Experience with the implementation of radar, RF, and digital hardware concepts in physical systems
    • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler
    • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to a non-technical audience

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
