Job Description

The Senior/Principal Modeling and Simulation Researcher in the Electronic Warfare Modeling & Analysis Division (EWMAD) will perform digital modeling, simulation, and analysis tasks to support electronic warfare research and development. Electronic warfare applications include aircraft self-protection, missile warning, hostile fire indication, laser warning, countermeasures, scene generation, atmospheric phenomena, and electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) signature modeling. The Senior/Principal Modeling and Simulation Researcher will be on an agile team that performs software verification, validation, and robust performance evaluation. Another critical component of their job responsibility is digital simulation and processor-in-the-loop simulation using hardware-acceleration techniques on dedicated high-performance computing clusters for our sponsors.

Job Duties

  • Develop physics-based models including EO/IR signals, sensors, systems, platform, threats, atmospheric phenomena, terrains, and scenes
  • Run simulations and algorithm optimizations
  • Curate data and write automation scripts
  • Write and perform software tests supporting software verification and document outcomes
  • Lead technical tasks, projects, and technical teams
  • Build and deliver technical presentations to stakeholders/sponsors
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Doctoral degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong technical experience in numerical modeling, physics, or engineering
  • Experience with Python, C/C++, Matlab
  • Experience with Linux

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with threat warning systems
  • Experience in the fields of remote sensing, machine learning, or computer vision
  • Experience with Perl, Modtran, Fortran, or Ada
  • Experience with Matlab Simulink
  • Experience with Machine Learning tools such as Tensorflow
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git)
  • Active DoD security clearance
  • A Ph.D. in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
