Project/Unit Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) Aerospace, Transportation and Advanced Systems Lab has opportunities for a Network Engineer in support of DoD test/training range research and development. Responsibilities include strategic planning, business development, program leadership, and technical product development in support of integrated DoD Live, Virtual, Constructive tools, software, and range system environments. The application of subject matter expertise in relevant information technology, software engineering, systems engineering, networking, cyber solutions, and test/training range environments is required. Systems engineering responsibilities include the development and management of product and program requirements through design, implementation, test and operation/management. Candidates for this position must demonstrate expertise in virtualization, automated processing, orchestration of tools, software development, systems architecture, and networking concepts. Experience with engineering team leadership with a variety of backgrounds in software development, systems engineering, test/training range tools and integrated test/training assets is required to execute product development and range integration efforts.

The DoD Live Mission Operations Capability (LMOC) program supports Air Force Training ranges and provides secure technology solutions to enable training. This position will be immersed in the Air Force training mission and have the opportunity to frequently interface with uniformed service members and DoD Civilians, and work closely with system end-users to ensure implementations meet their operational needs, and to help identify future system requirements

This position will report to the GTRI Utah Field Office, Hill AFB.

Job Purpose

Network engineers lead technical teams through Systems definition and requirements engineering, network design synthesis, and Network analysis and the design, implementation, operation and technical management of Systems projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all technical aspects of product or system design including directing multiple lab resources for large scale product or system deployments.
  • Manage sub-contractor resources supporting all system engineering areas (definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, Network analysis and implementation).
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for Network of high complexity. Define/refine internal and external interfaces.
  • Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Network Management.
  • Network Design.
  • Provide detailed technical recommendations to support accreditation of secure government systems.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Science in STEM Field of Study.
  • 15+ years' experience in networking solutions development for DoD fielded systems and training environments.
  • 10+ years' experience in development and fielding of range systems training solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Top-Secret Clearance.
  • 5+ Years' experience working with the following technologies: Windows, Linux, VMWare, Containerized Applications (Docker, Kubernetes), AWS, Google Protocol Buffers.
  • Project / software leadership experience.
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts.
  • Simulation Protocol experience: DIS, TENA, HLA.
  • DoD experience with knowledge of military aircraft and munitions systems.
  • Configuration management tools.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas.
  • Experience in configuring, deploying, and supporting Cisco/Juniper Routers, Switches and Firewalls.
  • Good understanding of SIP/VoIP.

Education and Length of Experience

  • 9 years of related experience with a Bachelors' degree in Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Software Engineering.
  • 7 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Software Engineering.
  • 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Software Engineering.

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
