Project/Unit Description

The Assured Software and Information Division (ASID) within the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is searching for a Machine Learning Security Engineer to work with a diverse team of mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists, and engineers exploring novel ways of applying and refining ML techniques for cyber domain machine learning projects. The research focus for this position is in the security, development, and validation of trusted and resilient autonomous systems. Researchers will explore and devise new algorithms and methodologies to enable practical application of online learning systems in safety critical environments. The position is based at GTRI facilities in Midtown Atlanta, GA; however, remote-work at alternative field offices is possible. Researchers at GTRI are research faculty at Georgia Tech.

Job Purpose

Scientist, engineer, or associate who performs security analysis, reverse engineering, vulnerability assessment, and/or exploitation of machine learning systems. Machine Learning Security Researchers are also expected to develop machine learning applications as needed to address cybersecurity solutions. They work with a technically savvy team of software experts to perform intelligent software analysis (including vulnerability research), reverse engineering (including malware analysis), and/or research and development on secure cyber systems. Machine Learning Security Research positions may perform these analyses at both the implementation (source and binary analysis) and behavioral level (system, network, and protocol analysis). May also with other units within the Georgia Tech community to perform interdisciplinary research in secure computing. Over course of career establishes a portfolio of secure computing research and supervises a team of researchers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analysis of cyber systems and vulnerabilities
  • Develop machine learning algorithms to support cybersecurity applications
  • Guide data collection and generation processes
  • Research, develop and present technical presentations for internal peer review
  • Stay current on research aiming for transfer/application of techniques with well thought out technical promise and challenges

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May, 2022.
  • 2 years experience with machine learning research and implementation
  • Data science experience and mathematics background in probability, statistics, and linear algebra
  • Proficiency with Python (including numPy, sciPy)
  • Proficiency with version control systems (Eg. Git)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Background in computer science, mathematics, physics, informatics, or engineering field
  • Proficiency with machine learning tools such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn
