Project/Unit Description

The Sensors and Electromagnetics Applications Laboratory (SEAL) is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the Special Projects Office at Robins AFB, GA. The job requires an understanding of data storage, data processing, and communications systems. The list below provides additional details on the anticipated tasking.

  • Architectures for a primary and secondary method of data storage and transfer will need to be defined and implemented, and the implementation of the architecture managed.
  • Defining and implementing architectures for data processing and storage interfaces with the data transfer architecture and the Battle Management infrastructure will be required.
  • Work with multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Stakeholder communities to be connected together and able to share information and communicate ideas. Closed User Groups (CUGs) are the method by which a majority of this communication is accomplished. CUGs require special understanding of Air Force and DoD regulations to implement the connections across all the users. Establishing the architecture for these programs and executing the implementation is needed to get all parties interacting as quickly as possible
  • Perform cyber security activities associated with the various stages of system lifecycle development and sustainment.

Job Purpose

Systems Engineers lead technical teams through systems definition and requirements engineering, design synthesis, and systems analysis and the design, implementation, operation and technical management of systems projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all technical aspects of product or system design and strategic architecture including directing multiple lab resources for large scale product or system deployments
  • Manage sub-contractor resources supporting all system engineering areas (definition, requirements analysis, architecture roadmaps, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation)
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of high complexity
  • Define/refine internal and external interfaces
  • Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes
  • Direct teams to implement, document, and maintain the solutions architecture roadmap, designs, procedures, standards, and metrics, as well as ensuring compliance and conformity of software architecture and technology standards

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work with the GTRI Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) team to ensure that all relevant aspects of the program are fully captured in an MBSE tool such as Cameo.
  • Ensure that documentation produced at each stage of the program conforms to regulatory, statutory, sponsor and stakeholder requirements and expectations.
  • Participate in the development of domain-relevant and effective processes and procedures.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in development methodologies and structured approaches to system development
  • Strong coordination, organization, teaming, and communication abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of the scope of projects within DoD and industry
  • Works well individually and in a group setting
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints
  • Strong technical presentation skills
  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience with Closed User Groups (CUGs) networking
  • At least 5 years of experience working in the DoD Intelligence Community

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education and Length of Experience

  • 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Electronic Systems.
  • 7 years of related experience with a Master’s degree in Information Systems or Electronic Systems.
  • 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Information Systems or Electronic Systems.

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
