Project/Unit Description
The Sensors & Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking engineers and scientists who have a strong background in the development of modern tracking and sensor fusion algorithms. We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Radar Algorithm Engineer with a robust background in target tracking and multi-sensor data fusion. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in linear algebra and stochastic processes, particularly in techniques applicable to non-linear estimation problems. Specific experience with implementations such as Extended and Unscented Kalman Filters is required. Proficiency in multiple frame trackers, such as Multiple Hypothesis Trackers, is a valuable asset. Additionally, experience in radar resource management and knowledge of closed-loop radar systems are highly desirable. As a researcher in the Air & Missile Defense Division (AMDD), candidates will work on a variety of projects supporting both US Army and Missile Defense Agency (MDA) radars. Job Purpose
The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer is responsible for the development and support of state-of-the-art algorithms involving data fusion, sensor fusion, machine learning, manned/unmanned avionics improvement programs, and genetic programming. The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer focuses on the design, analysis, software/hardware implementation, optimization, profiling, and experimental evaluation of computer algorithms, bridging the gap between algorithm theory and practical applications of algorithms in software engineering. Additionally, the Algorithm & Analysis Engineer conducts statistical analysis of multi-modal and time-varying data to characterize and quantify system qualities and deficiencies, resulting in recommendations and development of improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design data cleaning and analysis strategies, proposing new tools and modifications to existing paradigms
- Design and execute algorithm tests, providing oversight to others
- Lead algorithm design discussions for entire studies
- Architect overall algorithms with detailed system and integration considerations
- Lead technical report execution and provide oversight to others
- Lead discussions with sponsors for large portions of research
- Serve as technical lead for small projects at sponsor sites, providing guidance to others
- Lead technical execution and writing for sections of journal articles and conference presentations
- Conduct literature searches for finding new avenues of thought and bodies of work to explore
- Serve as a mentor to student researchers, including co-ops, Graduate Research Associates (GRAs), and others through Institute programs
Additional Responsibilities
- Developing state-of-the-art target tracking and track fusion algorithms.
- Integration of tracking functions with command & control, battle management, and communication systems.
- Briefing sponsors on a regular basis.
- Documenting research in briefings, papers, and reports.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Possess significant expertise in linear algebra and stochastic processes, particularly in techniques applicable to non-linear estimation problems.
- Specific experience with implementations such as Extended and Unscented Kalman Filters.
- Candidate currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December 2024.

- 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineer, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace or related fields.
- 7 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineer, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace or related fields.
- 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineer, Mathematics, Physics, Aerospace or related fields.
U.S. Citizenship Requirements
Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.
Clearance Type Required
