Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is looking for a senior level hardware oriented engineer who enjoys challenging technical problems, creating innovative solutions, and fielding those solutions. The Georgia Tech Research Institute has opportunities for research engineers within the Sensor and Systems Engineering Division (SSED). SSED projects focus on developing hardware for a wide range of Department of Defense applications. Hardware development includes designing and building custom hardware, modifying existing hardware, implementing solutions using general purpose hardware, and re-purposing hardware. Applications primarily include radar, electronic warfare, and embedded signal processing but often span into communication systems, surveillance systems, and other remote sensing applications.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist 

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Technical performer experience in the development of RF or digital hardware
  • Experience managing large hardware oriented projects to include budget, staffing, schedule, and customer interaction
  • Experience in systems engineering for large hardware oriented projects to include analysis and development of requirements, test planning for requirements verification, requirements tracking and traceability, risk mitigation, and documentation
  • Ability to lead a group of engineers and scientists
  • Ability to work in a research environment where there are many unknowns
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than 10 years of experience providing management and technical direction of hardware projects
  • More than 10 years of experience as a technical contributor on RF or digital hardware projects

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
