Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute in Boston, MA is seeking research engineers or scientists with experience in the areas of software development and machine learning. Candidates will support SEAL’s Command and Control Communication Program Office (C3PO) in the analysis, technology assessment and new capability prototyping for C2 nodes and platforms. Candidates will support teams designing analysis and implementation of alternative hardware and software technologies to update these nodes and in the prototyping of next-generation technologies. Candidates should have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical and managerial problems.

Job Duties

Software engineers will be responsible for research and development of:

  • Software architectures
  • Communication protocols/machine-to-machine communication
  • Software/performance optimization and testing

In addition to performing applied research, candidates will be expected to manage research efforts and to support business development activities. Business development includes the identification of research topics, conceptualization and formulation of research efforts, interaction with potential sponsors, and writing white papers and proposals. Applicants are required to possess both good written and oral skills in order to document and convey one's research to both internal and external customers on a regular basis. Senior Research Engineer candidates will be expected to direct research in a team setting and to manage resources and budgets. Researchers are expected to be able to work independently as well as in teams.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May 2020
  • Experience with C, C++, and Java
  • Experience with Linux, UNIX, and Windows
  • Knowledgeable in version control software such as GIT
