Job Description

Georgia Tech Research Institute’s Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) is currently seeking a student to join our Maritime Systems Branch for Fall 2024. This position is an in person only role where work must be executed at Cobb County Research Facility in Smyrna, GA for 10-20 hours per week. Students will assist Researchers in developing signal processing, statistical analysis, and machine learning algorithms applied to underwater sonar data. Students will also support data organization, analysis, and characterization. Students should be able to leverage programing skills in MATLAB, Python, or JAVA/C/C++. Students should be interested in learning about underwater acoustic sonar and have background and knowledge in signal processing. There are no remote work options for this position.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Student Assistant/Research Assistant

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Computational Engineering or similar major.
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters
  • 2.0 or higher GPA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in 1 or more programming languages
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Experience with signal processing concepts and algorithms
  • Experience with machine learning processing and algorithms
  • Knowledge of acoustics and fundamental principles of physical acoustics
  • Knowledge of version control tools for software management such as Git
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
