Job Description

The CIPHER (Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation) Laboratory is a leader in developing the technologies that secure, defend, and respond to threats within our country’s information, distribution, and network systems at GTRI. CIPHER provides high-impact solutions to some of today’s most challenging cybersecurity problems for both government and industry, while also developing far-reaching high-risk high-payoff cyber technologies to respond to future threats. Research areas include cyber threats and countermeasures, secure multi-level information sharing, resilient command and control network architectures, reverse engineering, information operations and exploitation, quantum computing and sensing, and data analytics.

The CIPHER lab is actively seeking a Student Intern to support information technology research. This position is responsible for developing and supporting both unclassified and DoD accredited Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X networks in conjunction with multiple sponsored research initiatives. Candidates will configure network hardware and servers, design and maintain platforms for application/machine virtualization, and architect large computing system deployments. Candidate will act as a technical consultant to other researchers on IT-related matters. Candidate will provide day-to-day operational and maintenance support for continuity of IT system operations. The candidate will support business development by contributing to proposals and proposal costing.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Intern

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Full-Time Intern- Must be registered for Full-time Internship Credit
  • Part-Time Intern– Must be registered for 6+ credit hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interests in learning Information Technology Operations
  • Basic level knowledge of computer hardware and various operating systems
  • Desire to grow as a future IT professional
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, and work as a team with others
  • Experience supporting and managing heterogeneous information technology systems
  • Experience supporting diverse customer base with various levels of technical acumen
  • Experience with virtualization, storage and networking

15–30 hours per week

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
