Job Description

GTRI’s Sensors and Electromagnetic Laboratory (SEAL) seeks qualified candidates to provide technical oversight as a Lead Engineer, Student Design and Development, for the STEM@GTRI High School Summer Internship program. 

The Lead Engineer will assist high school student interns with RF communications subject matter acquisition. This involves understanding system design, subsystem block functionality, and testing. Also, to provide engineering and supervisory support for program-specific tours and training; supervise and manage student teams consisting of minors, and monitor team progress.

The Lead Engineer will also serve as a resource to all faculty/staff mentors who require virtual support in order to comply with the Rule of Three mandate, which requires at least two adults on any and all communications with a minor.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Intern

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology 
  • 3.0 or higher GPA 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity and passion for RF Communications theory and practice (WiFi, cable, Satcom)
  • Experience in 1 or more programming languages in order to lead the programming segment
  • Experience with circuit or modern modeling with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Familiarity with making RF measurements (S-parameters, gain flatness, link-budget)
  • Familiarity with QAM-based on modern systems design and functions (e.g., error-correction, pre-distortion, interleaving)
  • Familiarity with controlling and passing measurement parameters to generators and analyzers (e.g., Keysight, Signal Hound)
  • Familiarity with QAM-based measurements (SNR, BER curves, EVM)
  • Familiarity with transmission line theory 
  • Familiarity with electronic circuit testing 
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas 
  • Ability to work with minors 
  • Task/team leadership experience 
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
