Job Description

GTRI’s Cooperative Education (“co-op”) program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school.

Work with our research engineers to develop adaptive wireless communications systems. Have you ever wanted to work in advanced wireless communications areas such as 5G, IoT, or Wi-Fi? As a co-op, you will get to learn skills in these areas to propel your career forward. If you have a good handle on the basics of ECE and are good at learning new things, then you already have the basic knowledge to get started here. We train our students with a positive attitude and work ethic into full-time employees upon graduation.

Your tasks will include: Assist in creating software and hardware for 5G, embedded systems, and servers. Programming and testing analog and digital electrical systems. Embedded software and sensor interfacing. Work on documentation, drawings, and designs.

The Communications Systems and Spectrum Division (CSSD) within the Information and Communications Lab (ICL) is seeking an Electrical and Computer Engineering Co-op starting Summer 2025. GTRI’s Information and Communications Lab (ICL) Communications Systems and Spectrum Division (CSSD) researches and develops military-grade wireless communications. ICL CSSD fuses multiple technologies including software-defined radio, FPGAs, 5G, circuit board design, 3D printing, and UAVs to solve our customer’s most challenging problems.

  • Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Linux and open-source tools
  • Knowledge of RF systems (modulation, test instruments, components such as filters and amplifiers)
  • Experience collecting and parsing data from system tests
  • Familiarity/experience with soldering
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
