Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) is currently seeking a Graduate Student Intern in the Electronic Systems Lifecycle (ESL) Division, located in Warner Robins, Georgia, for the Fall 2026 semester.


ESL conducts research and engineering support spanning the full lifecycle of a broad range of electronic systems. Operating primarily in support of Robins Air Force Base (AFB) in Warner Robins, Georgia, ESL specializes in advancing Electronic Warfare (EW), avionics and related technologies. The division's expertise covers a wide spectrum of activities, including system prototyping, technology insertion, systems and facility modernization, Test and Evaluation (T&E), cybersecurity engineering, and comprehensive system analysis. ESL plays a vital role in the development and enhancement of both emerging and fielded systems and platforms. This broad range of research will provide a solid foundation for the student as a future cybersecurity engineer. The student will work under the guidance of GTRI researchers performing research and development in one of the following areas:

  • Cybersecurity analysis
  • Cybersecurity policy implementation
  • Cybersecurity compliance for avionics systems

The student researcher will perform one or more of the following activities:

  • Develop system security engineering solutions for avionics systems
  • Investigate avionics systems interconnections and cybersecurity vulnerabilities
  • Develop RMF compliance solutions and documentation

Required Minimum Qualifications

Intern

  • Pursuing a Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Part-Time Intern– Must be registered for 6+ credit hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minor or significant classes in cybersecurity
  • Experience in developing RMF solutions to cybersecurity issues
  • Completion of Security+ or (ISC)2 Certified in Cybersecurity certification
  • Experience in the use of configuration management tools
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
  • Ability to perform research independently and on teams
  • Task / team leadership experience
  • Secret Clearance

10–20 hours per week

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.

The Information and Communications Laboratory is a fundamental and applied research laboratory focused on transdisciplinary research across the entire information science hierarchy. The laboratory of ~200 research and support personnel executes $50M of funded research per year. ICL’s fundamental strength is Information Science, a discipline that investigates the properties and behavior of data and information, the flow of data and information in systems, and the means of processing information for optimum accessibility and usability. ICL core research areas include: advanced computing systems, AI and ML, communications, data analytics, decision support systems, open architectures, 5G/FutureG, health analytics and informatics, secure information sharing, radio frequency (RF) propagation modeling, software-defined RF systems, and STEM education. ICL conducts research that solves complex problems for a range of domains, including national security, health, intelligence, law enforcement and justice, and economic impact for the state of Georgia. This position will be based out of the Quantico Field Office, located in Stafford, Virginia. GTRI has had a presence at the Quantico Marine Corps Base for over 25 years.
