Project/Unit Description

The Information Systems Engineer will help design the IT infrastructure that supports the entire Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI) enterprise. This will include integrating existing U.S. Space Force (USSF) systems and networks with newly developed capabilities across the globe and in orbit. The candidate will advise the OTTI Infrastructure branch on both cloud and on-prem solutions for compute, messaging, storage, and network that follow DoD cybersecurity and mission assurance standards. This advice may take the form of GTRI authored studies and prototypes as well as contributions to government requirements and design documentation that will directly guide DoD acquisition contracts.

Job Purpose

The Information Systems Engineer develops technical designs and provides support of the organization’s end-user computing environment. The Information Systems Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of the end-user computing environment, including but not limited to Windows, Mac, and Linux workstation provisioning, deployment, and maintenance. The Information Systems Engineer also leverages configuration management tools to effectively manage a fleet of heterogeneous systems, conducts compliance auditing, and vulnerability and patch remediation. The Information Systems Engineer also works closely with leadership, stakeholders, and Project/Process Management personnel to effectively translate business strategy and objectives into technological capabilities. In addition, the Information Systems Engineer interacts, advises and counsels on a regular basis with staff, third party vendors, and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support end-user IT devices life-cycle management (provisioning, deploying, patching, maintaining, backups, security, networking)
  • Conduct IT and security assurance systems research and integrate technologies into complex electronic systems
  • Design and maintain IT systems to support various sponsored research projects
  • Implement and maintain client and server software used to support project management and software development
  • Support Cross Domain Data Exchange and Systems Integration
  • Serve as a primary implementor of Infrastructure as Code for configuration management solutions
  • Oversee Virtual machine management
  • Validate security control configuration on systems and ensure all systems are configured for necessary controls, such as STIGS, CMMC, and other similar requirements
  • Actively collaborate with sponsors and external teams in order to derive tasks from detailed requirements
  • Provide tasking to other team members, based off of derived tasks
  • Provide software and merge request code reviews
  • Serve as the primary gatekeeper for infrastructure as code merges

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop roadmaps for Infrastructure team at the USSF OTTI Integrated Program Office (IPO)
  • Develop tests and metrics to measure infrastructure performance
  • Coordinate with other OTTI branches to inform Infrastructure needs
  • Coordinate and manage additional GTRI resources as needed to perform technical analysis

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience developing large scale information systems
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity processes and roles
  • Experience with Virtualized, Containerized, or Cloud based computing infrastructure and services
  • Experience in developing system requirements
  • Proficient in the development and publication of technical reports
  • Strong analytical and briefing skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  •  Experience developing large scale information systems in a DoD environment
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity processes and roles
  • Experience architecting enterprise network, security, messaging, storage, or compute solutions
  • Experience architecting multiple level security solutions, including familiarity with protection levels and cross domain solutions
  • Familiarity with DoD or IC networks in an operational context
  • Familiarity with space systems
  • Experience with Systems Engineering lifecycle and processes
  • Experience with DoD acquisition lifecycle and processes

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education and Length of Experience

Levels 4, 5, 6

  • 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 7 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or related field

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
