Job Description

GTRI’s Threat Applications Branch (TAB) in the Systems Development Division (SDD) within the Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems (ATAS) Laboratory seeks Graduate Research Assistants starting Fall 2025. Students with interests in RF engineering, test and evaluation, and radar systems. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the following areas:

  • Analog and digital circuit development and design
  • RF system design studies, test plans, and analysis
  • Generating cable and chassis level assembly drawings for various programs
  • Assisting in component selection and system design for various subsystems
  • Interfacing with various engineering teams for technical tasking
  • Documenting work of design, theory, and test in written and presentation form as part of a team

Required Minimum Qualifications

Graduate Research Assistant

  • Pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD at Georgia Tech in Electrical Engineering
  • Must be enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours)
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Commit to 15-20 hours of work per week

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Experience with MATLAB and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic simulation tools such as HFSS
  • Working knowledge of circuit design and simulation tools
  • Understanding of electrical theory consistent with an undergraduate education
  • Understanding of electromagnetic theory consistent with an undergraduate education
  • Experience in 1 or more programming languages
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
  • Experience working in teams to accomplish tasks and meet mutual objectives.

10–20 hours per week

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
