Job Description

GTRI’s Cooperative Education (“co-op”) program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school.

GTRI's Advanced Warfighting Technologies Division in the Advanced Concepts Laboratory seeks qualified candidates for the position of Undergraduate Intern Student for the Summer 2025 semester. The role of this position is to support various levels of the research and design process based upon their motivation, experience, and capabilities; which include, but are not limited to:

  • Electrical / system design as warranted by the task/mission
  • Experimental design and optimization
  • The gathering and processing of experimental data
  • Record and articulate individual and/or group research results
  • Software development including embedded firmware as required
  • Other mission supporting tasks as required

The Advanced Warfighting Technologies Division provides world-class, forward-looking thought leadership and turn-key, best-of-class warfighting technologies focused on countering weapons of mass destruction (CWMD) and changing the future of ground maneuver warfare for the U.S. Government and other sponsors.

The Job Duties for this position may include data processing and analysis in Matlab or Python. This position involves characterizing various enablers of unmanned systems and combining datasets together for an integrated system. This position also includes assigned independent research opportunities. Successful candidates should be able to read and process data from different sources, analyze data, and provide conclusions. Successful candidates will be enthusiastic about learning about new technologies and assessing ways for them to be used in operational environments for the warfighter.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Co-op

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms
  • Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation
  • Candidate must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Must be eligible to obtain a DoD Clearance
  • Analyze data using either Matlab or Python programming languages in order to perform data analysis
  • Practical circuit design experience using Altium or similar tool
  • Familiarity with basic electronic instrumentation including multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and function generators

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic about learning about new technologies and assessing ways for them to be used in operational environments for the warfighter
  • Candidates should have experience working with federal government (either as military, civilian, or contractor).
  • Experience in the development of unmanned systems
  • Previous or active DoD clearance
  • Ability to rapidly develop scripts and process data
  • Software development on embedded systems
  • Previous engineering design experience including but not limited to electrical hardware, mechanical design
  • Preference for candidates that can perform cross-discipline to work with integrated and embedded systems
  • Previous job, team, or military experience preferred
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot PCB hardware
  • Familiarity with specialized electronic instrumentation including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, VNAs, etc.
  • Experience with soldering and PCB assembly
