Project/Unit Description

ANGPD is predominantly focused on delivering combat capability to the Air National Guard and Reserves through sponsor-focused systems upgrades, testing, and training programs. ANGPD provides sponsors programmatic and technological solutions in a variety of areas including program management, system engineering, operations, acquisitions, test & evaluation (T&E), tactics, training, and research. This position is for the lead of the Open Systems Integration and Test Branch (OSITB).

Job Purpose

Lead multiple sponsored research projects. Manage Branch (7-15 FTE) administrative activities including hiring, appraisals and sponsored project success.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage branch budgets, resources and compliance with institute policies and procedures
  • Oversee and manage sponsored research in the branch
  • Support branch operations and coordination across branches within the division and other laboratories of GTRI
  • Train and mentor branch members to develop their expertise in conducting research
  • Lead ANGPD Open Systems Integration projects and other programs for our sponsors
  • Coordinate with current GTRI efforts, industry and government stakeholders to find solutions for our sponsor
  • Provide subject matter expertise on capability systems integration for our sponsor
  • Lead or support other researchers in the development of effective research skills, project management, and sponsor engagement
  • Support sponsor programmatic reviews, planning meetings, concept development efforts, and technical interchange meetings
  • Design and coordinate aircraft modifications with various System Program Offices and other approval authorities
  • Solve sponsor field-ability issues with open systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with on-going Open Systems development as applied to USAF Guard and Reserve efforts
  • Experience in the development and publication of technical reports, data packages, and test plans
  • Familiarity with aircraft mechanical and electrical systems
  • Detailed design knowledge using Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) standards
  • Experience with personnel leadership, mentoring and career growth
  • Experience with USAF aircraft and weapons systems.

Preferred Qualification

  • Active Top Secret Clearance (within past two years) with SCI
  • Experience in one or more of the following: test and evaluation of aerospace systems, sensor integration, signal processing, EO/IR sensors, RF threat systems
  • Experience with 4th, 5th and future generation fighter mission systems and tactical employment considerations
  • Aircraft flight test control and conduct experience
  • Electronic Warfare (EW) experience to include a working knowledge of Western Test Ranges

Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel

Education and Length of Experience

  • 20 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in any Engineering, Science, or related degree, or equivalent experience serving in the US Armed Forces 
  • 18 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in any Engineering, Science, or related degree, or equivalent experience serving in the US Armed Forces
  • 15 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in any Engineering, Science, or related degree, or equivalent experience serving in the US Armed Forces

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
