Job Description

The Command, Control, and Communications Division (C3D) within GTRI’s Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) is seeking a Student Software Development Intern, for Summer 2026, to support applied research programs focused on command, control, and communications systems. The student will work under the supervision of experienced software engineers to assist with software development, testing, integration, and documentation activities.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Intern

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum cumulative 2.5 or higher GPA
  • Coursework or basic software development experience in C/C++, Python Java)
  • Familiarity with debugging, version control, and testing
  • Full-Time Intern- Must be registered for Full-time Internship Credit
  • Part-Time Intern– Must be registered for 6+ credit hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in C/C++ and other programming languages (Python, Java, etc.)
  • Experience using native code debuggers (gdb, lldb, Visual Studiio, etc.)
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Familiarity with Linux, POSIX APIs, threading+parallel processing, TCP/IP networking/sockets and open-source tools
  • Configuration management tools (git/GitLab)
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
  • Experience developing within iterative development frameworks and teams (Agile, SCRUM, etc.)
  • Interest in software development for research or government systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
