Project/Unit Description

The Test Engineering Division (TEN) develops Hardware in the Loop (HITL) test sets, test tools, analysis tools and test methods for US Air Force, Army, Navy sponsors. This research is critical for supporting development, debugging, analysis and testing of Electronic Warfare (EW) and Integrated EW (IEW) systems.
The Robins Test Systems Engineering Branch (RTSEB) of TEN develops DoD EW and avionics systems engineering solutions, with a specific focus on the systems engineering, design, development and application of these systems. RTSEB engineers work with teams to develop requirements, perform system analysis and design, implement and maintain complex solutions, and develop and execute tests.

Job Purpose

The Systems Engineer oversees and coordinates the work of technical teams on systems projects, ensuring the successful design, implementation, operation, and technical management of those projects. Taking a holistic approach to systems engineering, the Systems Engineer ensures that all aspects of a system project are considered and addressed. The Systems Engineer works closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and then develops and documents technical requirements that meet those needs. The Systems Engineer leads the design team in developing a system architecture that meets all of the requirements. After the system is designed, the Systems Engineer oversees the implementation of the system, working with the implementation team to ensure that it meets all of the requirements. Once the system is deployed, the Systems Engineer manages the technical aspects of the system, including monitoring performance, troubleshooting problems, and making improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate product or system requirements gathering and analysis with sponsors and other key stakeholders
  • Verify systems engineering product life-cycle components to include definitions, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of moderate complexity to include defining and refining internal and external interfaces
  • Develop and contribute to technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes
  • Analyze product or system functionality as defined by requirements

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage all technical aspects of product or system design including directing multiple resources for large scale products or system deployments
  • Execute systems engineering processes including functional decomposition, requirements development, architectural development and test program development
  • Support industry and DoD sponsor in the use and application of systems engineering to tradespace analysis, design, and acquisition
  • Present technical and program management presentations to government sponsors
  • Perform business development of systems engineering research
  • Provide on-site support and troubleshooting of software and hardware systems
  • Perform program management and lead project teams
  • Perform systems engineering analysis relating to cyber assessment of EW/Avionics systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with system testing or system development professionally
  • Experience leading an engineering team
  • Engineering experience with EW and/or Avionics systems
  • Experience leading project teams, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience with software testing and analysis
  • Experience with electrical/hardware development
  • Experience with computer automated design tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.)
  • Experience with RF test hardware (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, etc.)
  • Experience with electrical power and control systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with versioning control systems such as Git
  • Willingness to travel

  • 3 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or any related engineering degree
  • 0 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or any related engineering degree

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

Clearance Type Required
